File manager for Windows with tree views that's very customizable.

UltraExplorer is an interesting file manager which can be used as an alternative to Windows Explorer.

It was originally created as a sort of test bed for the developer who decided to release it to the public.

UltraExplorer includes many of the features you would expect from a program of this nature but totally reworks the layout and visual functionality of the original Windows Explorer. It includes tabbed navigation along with the ability to customize colors and run executable files in the command line.

New tabs can be activated with the CTRL T hotkey similar to almost all modern web browsers.

The dual panel layout of UltraExplorer is handy and provides functionality like cut, copy, paste, edit, map network drive and the ability to create context menu items.

The breadcrumb bar of the user interface is better than the newer Windows Explorer bar since it sticks to the basics. Additionally, much of what you see in the interface can be customized to one degree or another (mainly color schemes).

In terms of system footprint, UltraExplorer seems to be faster and uses less resources than Windows Explorer. That is probably thanks to the fact it doesn't load sluggish thumbnails when generating lists.

All in all, UltraExplorer is certainly a usable and good alternative to Windows Explorer and despite the fact it was designed years ago, it still works on modern Windows versions like Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.
